Still in the Country

As the morning announced itself
I lay with eyes shut
just listening..
An occasional car or tractor
would find it's way
down the road
accompanied along our fence line
by the warning barks
of ever so watchful Pyr's
Thibodeaux seemed to say..
"Don't you stop that thing here!"
"Keep it movin', you rascal!"
An occasional
"woof"
coming forth from Chloe
as she resided over her realm from
atop the door steps.
Peeking from under shaded eyelid
the light of day did not seize
my attentions
yet, the shading of a grey rainy sky
gently stroked my hazy spirit
to awaken and enjoy
the slow quietness of a country morning.
